Rate of Growth: Very fast.
Growing Conditions: Adapts to most all soil types; best in
full sun and well drained soil.
Uses: Attractive white flowers and bright red fruit. Fruit
enjoyed by wildlife and sometimes gathered for making preserves and
jellies.

Rate of Growth: Fast.
Growing Conditions: Locally frequent throughout the state
along streams, in open or lightly shaded swamps and wet grounds;
moderately shade tolerant.
Uses: Produces handsome clusters of white flowers and scarlet
fruits, which birds eat in late winter; berries can be picked to
make home-made jellies; excellent wildlife plant.

Rate of Growth: Medium.
Growing Conditions: Does well in moderately wet soils; shade
intolerant; degree of stem redness directly related to amount of
exposure to sunlight (greenish stems in shade). Easily transplanted
and propagated.
Uses: Fruit is bunched or clustered red or white fruit: eaten
by songbirds, pheasant, grouse, deer and squirrel.
Height at maturity: Grows 7-10’ tall and can spread up to
12’.

Rate of Growth: Slow growing if shaded; fast growing in full
sunlight.
Growing Conditions: Prefers rich, moist lowland; shade
tolerant; transplants well.
Uses: Fruits excellent for wildlife. Deep purple berry-like
fruit in large clusters with white flowers (June-July) native
wetland edge species. Easily transplanted and propagated by stem
cuttings. Planted along stream banks, the drooping branches provide
high quality aquatic cover.
Height at maturity: Grows up to about 8’ tall and can spread
up to 15’ across.
