Plotmaster 400

The Genesee County Conservation District bought a wildlife food plot seeder. The seeder is unique in that it can be used with small tractors or ATVs. The seeder can also prepare the seedbed while the seed is being distributed.

The recommended ATV size for the Plotmaster is 300cc or larger. The recommended tractor size for the Plotmaster is 18 to 40 hp. Lawnmower tractors of this size will work as well. The Plotmaster can be pulled by a tongue hitch or by a three-point hitch. The seeder is battery operated via an electric motor that is hooked up to your tractor/ATV battery.

The Plotmaster can disc and plow at the same time you are seeding. The plow can be done with a chisel plow or sweep plow. Depth of tillage is controlled by an electric jack.
If you would like to plant some small areas for deer, turkey, pheasants, or other wildlife this year, give the Genesee Conservation District a call at 810-230-8766 ext 3.

The Conservation District charges $75 per day for the use of the Plotmaster, with a $50 pre-paid deposit ($125 due at time of rental). Fees are subject to change without notice per District’s Board.

The Plotmaster is ideal for developing large plots of wildflowers/native grass mixes. It would be ideal for the seedbed preparation and seeding of wildflower mix. It could be used to prepare your garden for spring garden plantings. One could also prepare the seedbed for lawns as well as seed lawns.

Use of the Plotmaster can only be done on your property. The Plotmaster is not to be used to make a profit from seeding someone else’s property.

Grass Drill

The Genesee Chapter of Pheasants Forever purchased a No-Till Grass Drill in the spring of 2003 to assist landowners with developing their land for Pheasant Habitat as well as for other habitat. The habitat should be in Genesee County, but surrounding counties qualify if they meet certain criteria.

The Genesee Conservation District is authorized to assist the Pheasants Forever Chapter with the use of the drill. Often times the landowner contacts the Genesee Conservation District about habitat development and to locate a drill for crop plantings. The Pheasant Forever Chapter wanted to work with the District and enable the drill to be used on more habitat projects than those with which the Pheasants Forever Chapter was involved.

The drill is a six foot drill. The seed slots are on a 7 inch center. Seed depth can be adjusted for the seed depth needed for the grass or legume you are seeding. Since the drill is a No-Till drill it can be used on old farm fields that have not had a crop on them for several years. It will seed into sodden areas, but the vegetation should be dead to allow the seed to germinate and emerge on a timely basis. This drill will ideally work best on three to ten acres. Smaller areas could be more easily done with the Plotmaster.

If you have a need for planting areas to grasses, legumes, etc., contact the Genesee Conservation District for use of the Pheasants Forever No-Till Drill. There is a $125 set up fee for using the drill. The fee covers the cost of moving the drill to the site, setting it up for the user, the first 10 acres of seeding, and returning the drill to the office. This fee also covers the liability of moving the drill from place to place. There is a per acre fee of $6 per acre after the first 10 acres to cover the maintenance cost of the drill. If the $125 fee is a hardship, visit with the Conservation District about Pheasants Forever financial assistance. (These fees are subject to change as dictated by the Pheasants Forever Chapter.)
